Coconut oil is becoming very popular with health enthusiasts and is quickly becoming a holistic health product. We know it’s great for us humans, but did you know it’s also great for your dog?

Many have found coconut oil useful for a multitude of health improvements, for example:

  • Fat burning
  • Reducing hunger
  • Antibacterial and antifungal
  • Skin and hair conditioner
  • Insect repellent

Not only is it good for us, but it's also good for our dogs. Just as we can use it to improve our health, we can also take advantage of these benefits for our dog's health.

What are the benefits for my dog?

Many benefits have been discovered from coconut oil for dogs and the uses are almost endless! Here are just a few to get you started!

1. Applied directly to the skin

Coconut oil is famous because it is an excellent ally in the care of dog skin and coat. It can help treat cases of flea allergies, dermatitis, irritated skin and even serves as an anti-flea treatment. It is also an excellent moisturizer that can also make your dog's hair shine beautifully.

Coconut oil is a natural antibacterial agent and can help to heal cuts, wounds or stings. It is also antimicrobial and antifungal. The extra bonus of these benefits? It naturally deodorizes your dog, washing away the stink of the day.

Even though you can apply coconut oil directly, there are some great products like paw balms, bath bombs and shampoo bars that makes it even easier to take care of your dog’s skin.

2. Make coconut oil part of their diet

Coconut oil is the perfect treat for a dog, they love the taste, and it's good for them too. You can give it to them with their food or with a spoon.

As a general rule, give him one teaspoon for every 10 pounds of weight. If you're going to start giving it to your dog, don't start with the full dose, start slowly with a quarter of the recommended dose and add a quarter a week until you reach the recommended dose.

One of its main benefits is that it helps improve digestion and absorption of nutrients because it is a natural antioxidant.  It can also help in the treatment of fungal infections (such as common ear infections).

Also, if your dog has bad breath, this remedy can come in handy. In fact, some people recommend brushing their teeth with oil.

It gives them energy and promotes weight loss. Coconut oil is also excellent relief for those who have dogs that suffer from arthritis and joint problems. It makes old dogs feel and look younger because of the large number of healthy fats in it.

Did we convince you? Now you know what you can do to improve the health and appearance of your dog (and yours)!
